Water Damage Restoration

11/25/2019 (Permalink)

Before we can begin the process of restoration, we will need to check the source of damage, and stop it.

The next step will be to identify the category and classification of the water damage. Depending on the level of contamination and classification of the water will determine the restoration process we will use.

  1. Clean water
  2. Gray Water
  3. Black Water

Clean Water

Clean water (or Category 1 water) is from a clean source such as a broken water supply line or a leaking faucet. If this water isn’t treated it can turn into category 2 or 3 depending on how long it is left untreated.

Gray Water

Gray water (or Category 2 water) can cause illness, an example of this type of water would be from a washing machine, dishwasher overflow, or toilet overflow containing urine.

Black Water

Black water (or category 3 water) is highly contaminated. Examples of black water include: water from beyond the toilet trap, from the toilet bowl containing feces, or standing water that has begun supporting microbial growth.

After identifying the classification of water, we will inspect to determine the extent of the damage and how far the moisture has traveled. Next we will move the furniture and contents and block them off from any moisture and to prevent them from leaving stains on the carpet.

Water Removal

Now begins the water removal. This step removes almost all of the water. We use powerful equipment to remove hundreds or thousands of gallons of water from your home or business.

If your home requires extensive restoration, SERVPRO of Northern Rhode Island can conduct a move-out to protect your belongings.

Removing most of the water reduces the drying time and also prevents any secondary water damage or microbial growth

Our technicians will inspect the carpet and carpet pad to see if they will need to be removed in order to protect your subfloor.

Drying & Dehumidification

After the water has been removed, the floors and walls mat seem dry, but they may be wet to the touch. Building materials such as wood, drywall and flooring are porous and they will retain water. Retaining water may cause the materials to break down or cause mold damage.

Cleaning & sanitizing

We will clean your furniture, upholstery, structure, and other restorable belongings that may have been affected by the water.

At SERVPRO of Northern Rhode Island, we specialize in restoring contents damaged by water and mold. We believe that “restoring” rather than “replacing” can ultimately save you money. Learn more about contents restoration here
